WHY SWISS

Why Choose Swiss-Type Machining

Swiss turning is the most cost-effective way to produce small, complex components β€” especially with high aspect ratios.

🎯

Sub-Micron Control

The sliding-headstock guides the bar right at the tool, eliminating deflection β€” Swiss machines hold tolerances that fixed-head lathes cannot reach on slender parts.

πŸ”

Complete Parts in One Setup

Main spindle, sub-spindle and live tooling turn, mill, drill, thread and cross-drill in a single cycle β€” shorter lead time, fewer fixtures, lower cost.

πŸ“

High Aspect Ratios

Parts up to 20Γ— diameter in length, machined straight and true β€” long pins, shafts and cannulas without secondary operations.

⚑

High-Volume Economy

Multi-spindle capability and short cycle times make Swiss turning the benchmark for serial small parts β€” quote-to-delivery stays fast even at high volumes.

FAQ

Swiss Turning FAQ

Practical answers for buyers of small precision parts. Still unsure? Send your drawing and ask.

What is the difference between Swiss turning and CNC turning?
A Swiss-type lathe feeds the bar through a guide bushing while tools cut close to the bushing, so long, slender parts do not deflect. It excels at small diameters (Ø1–32 mm), tight tolerances (Β±0.005 mm) and long components β€” while fixed-head CNC turning handles larger diameters and shorter, stiffer parts.
How small can Swiss-machined parts be?
We machine parts from about Ø1 mm up to Ø32 mm. Within this range we routinely produce pins, screws, cannulas and fittings to very tight tolerances with excellent surface finish.
Can you machine the whole part β€” not just turning?
Yes. Swiss machines with live tooling and a sub-spindle complete turning, milling, drilling, cross-drilling, threading and slotting in one setup, so parts come off the machine finished and ready to ship.
What tolerances can Swiss turning hold?
We hold ±0.005 mm on critical diameters with Ø tolerances to H4/H5, verified with calibrated gauges and CMM. Tell us which features are critical and we will quote them realistically.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No fixed MOQ. We run one-off prototypes for validation and ramp to millions of parts per year β€” unit price drops predictably with volume.
Which materials are best for Swiss machining?
Free-machining grades give the best economy β€” stainless 303, 12L14 steel, C36000 brass and 6061 aluminum. We also machine titanium, 17-4 PH, PEEK and customer-supplied alloys; our engineers will recommend the grade for your part.
